The people of Illinois are in dire need of new leadership. From the Governor’s Office to City Hall, a political culture of graft and corruption has touched every level of government. Sadly, Illinois politics has become the butt of a joke.

Cronyism has also plagued the 1st Legislative District. In 1998, the now defunct and disgraced Hispanic Democratic Organization (HDO) ousted Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, a progressive politician and the district’s first Latino senator, and ushered an era of unprecedented patronage and corruption. For the past 11 years, the needs of the district have taken a backseat to the needs of HDO. In these tough economic times, the people of the 1st Legislative District can ill afford to lose more jobs and resources to those with personal and political ties to the current regime.
